Bihunkot and the Bihunkote Community in the UK

Bihunkot is a Village Development Committee located in the Baglung District of the Dhaulagiri Zone in central Nepal. With a population of around 10,000 and approximately 1,071 households, it lies about 17 kilometers from Baglung Bazaar. This historic and religious rural village holds deep cultural significance.

According to historical records, around 1608 BC, Mahadev Uppadhya - a Kandel ancestor and royal priest of the Galkot Kingdom settled in Bihunkot, gradually contributing to the development of the community. The village is also the birthplace of Rasta Shanta 1008 Swami Pramananda, a revered spiritual figure. Notable religious sites such as Bihunkot Mandir and Tripureshower Mandir are well-known across Nepal.

The population of Bihunkot includes Brahmins, Kshetris, Magars, Dalits, and other castes. For long-distance travel, residents typically use buses and jeeps. Although infrastructure is improving, development is still slower than expected. Situated over 2,000 meters above sea level, Bihunkot lies in a mountainous region

Agriculture is the main occupation in Baglung, with many locals also engaged in small businesses. The region is known for its dairy products such as ghee, cheese, and traditional sweets. Farmers also cultivate fruits like oranges, bananas, guavas, papayas, and pineapples. The temperate climate makes the area ideal for diverse agricultural production.

Since 2001, over 100 families have migrated to the UK for employment, education, and to support their loved ones—forming a vibrant and growing Bihunkote diaspora.
